Dr. Camillo Ricordi Named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors

Camillo Ricordi, M.D., director of the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election to NAI Fellow status is the highest professional accolade bestowed solely to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions.

Cancer Link Celebrates 30 Years of Support for Breast Cancer Research at Sylvester

Thirty years ago, Marlene Berg founded Cancer Link with a small group of women to increase awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for research. Since then, the all-volunteer nonprofit has raised nearly $3 million to support Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “We are all grateful for the great care provided by Sylvester’s medical team,” said Berg.

UHealth Clinic at Walgreens Launches HIV/Sexual Health Program

In response to South Florida’s high rates of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), UHealth—the University of Miami Health System is piloting an initiative to provide screenings, prevention, and treatment services with the aim of reducing transmission of HIV and other STIs. The pilot initiative launched on World AIDS Day, Friday, Dec. 1, at three of 17 UHealth Clinic at Walgreens locations.
